About me

Welcome to my website!

My name is Rashida (that’s me up there!) and I am currently living out my dream as a quilt designer for the Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine and the Australian Handmade Magazine.

I want you to come join me in my virtual quilting studio.  Here you can explore all of my exciting projects, both old and new, and learn all about quilting with me.

Born in Kenya, Africa, I was surrounded by very talented women who dabbled in all kinds of crafts from sewing, making of soft toys, knitting, machine embroidery, you name it! That’s been a long while back.  I consolidated my love for sewing by graduating in a Diploma in Home Science, Majoring in Clothing and Textiles. I opened my own creative business of custom designing traditional Indian garments.

Life has evolved quite a bit since then and seen me travel thousands of kilometers away from all I have known into the beautiful country of Australia.  This is the place where I truly found the craft of quilting.  I looked, I admired, I wondered how could someone make such stunning art merely by using fabric.  I was amazed by the depth of some of the local art quilts – they actually look like paintings! I was hooked, and thus I began my great journey into quilting.

Quilting has consolidated my passion for fabric, colour and embroidery.  It gives me so much freedom to create and capture the beauty of both the natural, and the abstract.  But in the end, all I want to do is create warm, beautiful quilts with love.

I have published quilted projects both in the Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine and the Australian Handmade Magazine since 2016.

I hope this website helps you discover a passion for quilting, just like me!
