India Modern Quilt Guild (IMQG) April Challenge

The IMQG April Challenge was to use the colours of the IMQG logo to make a quilt block that reflects what modern quilting means to you.

Participants are encouraged to stretch themselves and plan an interesting composition that represents your own unique voice.

The IMQG logo colours are as shown below.

My entry for the April Challenge is:

This block was inspired by Geta Grama. I found this block quite interesting but knew that it is going to be challenging to make it.  I used foundation piecing to construct it.  This a very rough sample so much improvement is needed as you can see many flaws in my construction.

All the fabrics used are from my scrap pile, so I am very proud to have been able to come up with a block which kinda matches the IMQG logo!.  Very satisfying indeed.

I suppose modern quilting is about creating fresh, open, sometimes asymmetrical styles of quilts.  This block may be more inclined towards the traditional block as everything is symmetrical, but the pointy stars gives it an out of space kind off feel…………what do you guys think?

This block represents my love for colour, freshness and to be experimental and try out new and different techniques in quilting.

2012 is my year to learn and grow as a quilter and the IMQG and its vibrant members allow me to do just that.
