Block templates and my selection of fabric:
- Templates are available on no3quiltstudio craftsy store.
- Below are my selection of fabrics.
- To construct the a quilt block using the foundation or paper piecing method you also need a non-fusible interfacing material or you can use lightweight cotton muslin to draw your foundation block.
Cutting your fabric:
Cut out your template as shown below. As we will need four of each colour fabric I would suggest folding your fabric so you can cut four at the same time.
Once the templates are cut out on fabric, set out ready to stitch on the mat as shown below.
Preparing your foundation block:
To prepare your foundation block you will require a non-fusible interfacing material or muslin (light weight cotton). You can also print out the block on paper and once all sewn up you can tear the paper off, but I recommend the use of either non-fusible interfacing material or muslin (light weigh cotton), so once you have sewn the block together you can incorporate into your quilt top.
The pictures below show how I trace out the block.
Sewing your block:
Get your sewing machine ready with appropriate thread. I usually like to take my blocks to the sewing machine on my mat and also have the picture of my finished block next to it (as shown in Lesson 1). This ensures that I don’t make a mistake in sewing the block pieces together.
Step 1: To start sewing place your first block in the centre following your drawing. Make sure you place it so all the seam allowance are aligned with your drawing.
Step 2: Sewing the second template
Step 3: Sewing your third template
Once sewn make sure you flatten out with iron.
Continue similarly for your last and final template. I don’t seem to have a picture so my apologies.
Your block is ready. If you turn your block it should look like this. All sewing should fall on your block pattern lines.
Please feel free to ask me any questions. Once finished why don’t you add your block on the shared photo album so I can see what you have created.
